If anybody wants to see pics, let me know, and I'll go take a couple. I had to re-route and re-string the factory harnesses a bit, but there was plenty of length - no splicing was necessary. In the two Impalas with the factory amps in back, I relocated those to the boxes with the aftermarket amps. The amp is driven by the hi-level signals feeding the rear 6x9's (ie, off the Bose/factory amp outputs). But I shouldn't complain - I picked it up cheap at a refurb outlet. The only thing I wish in hindsight was that it had a remote gain control. In my SS, the amp is a class-D mono unit. De-ox (black goop) was used over the stud to prevent corrosion. I used a star washer thinking it would have better electrical conductivity as well as being a lock washer.
A dremel was used to remove the finish and expose the bare sheet metal to ensure a good connection. That took an expensive bit, but the store was anxious for biz and marked it down from 18 to 10 bucks :smile:Ī second, 1/4" hole in the fender was used to mount a stainless 1/4-20 screw as a stud for the ground return. The hole in the rear fender was drilled behind the seat but forward of the strut. Plastic, corrugated conduit was used to encase the power line most of the way. That was much easier than trying to spelunk my way thru the firewall :biggrin: The line runs out the front right fender near the washer tank, behind the fender liner, down to the rocker panel, aft to the rear fender, up behind the liner and thru the fender into the trunk. The power wire was run off the fuse box power stud near the battery. That way, the fan cuts off when the key is off. I used one of the signals off the head unit to control the fan via a small relay.

Each amp box has one or two 12V, 5" computer fans picked up at the local electronics surplus store. This list contains a total of 18 apps similar to Subs Factory. Here, in the Texas heat, the amps are prone to overheating - my daughter's would frequently go into thermal shutdown. The amps were mounted in the trunks, in small wooden boxes which I also fabricated. I built an adaptor using some good 3/4" plywood to mate the round speaker to the ~rectangular opening. In all three cases, I mounted 10" subs in the rear deck under the opening, where the factory amp goes in the premium audio systems. I've done three Impalas, two 2002's and a 2007 SS.
